Couples and relationship counseling

Change the pattern—not each other

Couples can care deeply about one another and still become trapped in criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, mistrust, or the same unresolved argument. Counseling creates space to understand the cycle and practice a different way of responding.

Reasons couples reach out

Counseling may address communication problems, recurring conflict, betrayal, loss of trust, emotional distance, parenting disagreements, intimacy concerns, major transitions, and uncertainty about the future of the relationship.

Work toward clearer connection

Sessions focus on listening more effectively, expressing needs without attacking, recognizing escalation, repairing after conflict, setting boundaries, and taking responsibility for changes each partner can make.

A collaborative approach

Work may draw from person-centered, solution-focused, CBT, DBT, and Gottman-informed strategies based on the couple’s needs. The goal is not to choose sides but to understand the relationship pattern and support meaningful change.

Frequently asked questions

Helpful details before you call

Do both partners need to attend?

Couples counseling generally works best when both partners participate. Call to discuss your situation and whether couples or individual counseling is the most appropriate starting point.

Can counseling help after betrayal?

Counseling can provide a structured place to address the impact of betrayal, clarify needs and boundaries, rebuild communication, and decide what healing means for the relationship.

Where are appointments offered?

Appointments are available in Kinsman and Cortland. Telehealth may also be considered when both partners are located in Ohio and have appropriate privacy.
